Overview
Continuous improvement (CI) is on the minds of many, and businesses are in varying stages of the CI journey. Minitab has learned a lot about what it takes to create a culture of transformation, and how to empower teams to implement data analytics to continually improve. Continuous improvement is not front and center in many organizations, but we have noted that the most successful companies have adopted continuous improvement as an organization-wide culture.
Recent Trends That Are Changing the Continuous Improvement Landscape
Data-driven problem solving is not a new trend. What is new are the latest technologies, regulatory changes, economic challenges, and changing work culture that all impact what we decide to do with data. Here are few key factors that have made the data culture more dynamic in recent years:
Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI has emerged as a mainstream technology that many businesses feel the need to incorporate into their business practices, so they don’t get “left behind”. AI technology isn’t new, at Minitab we have been powering our machine learning and advanced analytics solutions with it for years.
Risk Management Around Data: Businesses are increasingly concerned with how their data is being used. Evolving regulations and data privacy laws like GDPR, HIPAA, California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the UK’s Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and others influence how we can use and govern data.
Pandemic Impact: The pandemic impacted the way we work in general: the number of remote workers has surged, along with an increased emphasis on employee well-being and mental health, and that impacts how we work and how we train and include employees. As most of us know, manufacturing operations and the supply chain suffered a huge setback from the pandemic and are still trying to catch up today.
