Ian Myers, a sophomore in chemical engineering at Penn State University, found out how attractive his Minitab experience was when he visited a job fair in the spring semester of his freshman year. “My résumé included the fact that I had used Minitab Statistical Software both for school and in a summer job,” he says. “I went in not knowing whether I’d be able to find a good internship, and I walked out with offers from five different companies. “The recruiters told me that my experience with Minitab really gave me a boost, because it’s such an important tool for quality improvement and Six Sigma,” he says. “In the end, it was really hard to choose which internship to take.” Myers decided to take a three-semester cooperative internship with an international chemical company. Starting this summer, he’ll get the opportunity to experience working in both research and development and manufacturing situations at the company’s facilities in Louisiana, Texas, and California. The company will provide housing while he’s working on site, and a generous stipend will help Myers pay his rent and buy his textbooks when he returns to the classroom.
